CONCLUSION OF TENURE AS ASSISTANT CONDUCTOR OF THE ST. LOUIS SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA

After two seasons as assistant conductor of the SLSO, Childress concluded her tenure with a dazzling concert in May 2023, the last in Powell Hall preceding the hall’s closure and renovation.
She led the St Louis Symphony Youth Orchestra in a powerful rendition of Dvorak’s Symphony no. 9, a piece she had previously conducted during her first subscription week with the SLSO. Over her two and a half years with the orchestra, she was mentored by music director Stéphane Denève and was able to assist conductors such as John Adams, Hannu Lintu, John Storgards, amongst others.]
She was also heavily involved in the programming and furthering of new music, and frequently led workshops for composers studying at Mizzou, even championing some of their work outside of St. Louis.
