Returning to Berlin Konzerthaus

I was delighted to be back for the third time with the wonderful Berlin Konzerthausorchester for a rather unusual Good Friday programme culminating in Pärt’s Cantus memoriam am Benjamin Britten, followed by Britten’s Sinfonia da Requiem.

Although death and sorrow was a big through-line of the concert’s journey, Strauss’s Metamorphosen offered a contemplative, at times beautifully emotive start to our programme, with Lukas Sternarth’s fiery interpretation of Liszt’s Totentanz slamming us back on track as a virtuosic set of fireworks before the interval.

Berlin is a city I always love returning to, most of all because of my continued work with the Konzerthausorchester, and their gorgeous hall which I first performed in as a violinist on my final tour as leader of NYOGB in Summer 2015. Strong memories and the city aside, this was by far one of my favourite programmes and concerts of the year. Vielen dank! '
